Anyone know how to make saimin broth? Been craving it real bad. The only recipe I can find online just doesn't seem right (4qt water, 4 cups chicken broth, ginger, 2tbsp shoyu, 1tbsp salt).

It depends on which saimin you like. I like S&S broth as Okahara tastes really fishy. I like the Marukai brand Dashi no moto.

The recipe you have is way off as you need to boil katsuoboshi with some konbu, iriko and shiitake.

i think it's a good service in theory but there are too many posts that irritate me. i got booted and never rejoined the page.

I'll take any broth recipe. I got a ton of home made chicken stock at home to go off of. Been making pseudo paitan/tonkotsu style ramen at home to satiate the cravings

For ramen broth, you need to boil pork bones until the marrow comes out and clouds the water.

For the actual way yea. I do a pseudo ramen recipe though. I buy chicken thighs from Costco in bulk and boil them for meal prep. What I get left is dank collagenous chicken stock, and I separate it from the fat.

When I want to make ramen, I heat up a pot with some broth and chicken fat, blend it together to get that creaminess, add in dashi/shoyu/mirin/salt until I like the taste (traditionally you would make a Tare). Boom, got a basic paitan style broth. Not really tonkotsu since there's no pork tho tbh

That looks good! Shoyu base? I've been to Japan many times recently. I'll be going again in April. I'll check it out!

Looks awesome. I was looking at trips to Japan recently. I want to go so bad just to experience the food--namely Kobe steaks for dinner, and drowning (almost literally) in Ramen for every other meal. Tough to swing with money and time commitment though.

Side note, I went to a 3 Michelin star restaurant last Feb. Saison in San Francisco.

trips to japan are cheap right now. there was an air asia deal for rt to osaka for $330 and right now tokyo is $600 rt on hawaiian. hotels or air bnb can be cheap enough and the dollar is fairly strong.

i had kobe beef in ginza with my wife about 4 years ago and it was fantastic. good ramen is everywhere. i had a great bowl of miso ramen on my last day from tonchin for around $7.

Was it that much better than other places? What about eating at those street vendors? Those look like it would be fun and entertaining to eat there.

it was really good but i prefer miso or tonkotsu ramen. as far as shoyu ramen goes, it's definitely the best i've had. we didn't eat any street food. some chestnuts would have been nice in the cold but we didn't see any.

Generously rounding up and not accounting for fractions of Bitcoin that I spent,
I started investing in Bitcoin starting late Jan 2017. In total I have 4.02xxx BTC that cost me $4,380.
    As of this post, it's worth $5,180 - $800 gain, 18% profit

The Winklevoss ETF decision comes out next week and BTC could very well double if it gets approved.

Ethereum also went up almost 50% this week. Sitting just under $20/eth now, but I might have missed my chance to hop on early&cheap.

Also, I'm on Spring Break and I'm staying in Omaha and bored as hell

EDIT: There's a bar here that advertises that they take Bitcoin. In a couple years I should buy my buddies a round of drinks there and pay with Bitcoin, lol.
